From Idea to Reality

Born beside grieving families

Working in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and assisting families through our Perinatal Hospice Program, we often met families grappling with concerns about affording their child’s burial. I vividly recall sitting with a grieving family shortly after their newborn had passed away — navigating the daunting process with the mortuary, the options, the costs.

The mother, overwhelmed with grief, tearfully expressed that she could not bear the financial burden. We explored alternatives, but laying her baby to rest in any other way was not what she desired. In that moment, the need for change became clear. No family should face such heart-wrenching decisions because of money.

This was not an isolated moment. As we began to speak out, others shared the same experience. From these stories, Luna Babies arose — driven by the aspiration to ease the financial burden and to offer unwavering support to families during the most heartbreaking moments of their lives.

The Luna Butterfly

Its significance

The luna moth lives across North and Central America. Its pale green wings — patterned with eyes — span over three inches, among the largest moths on the continent. It has no mouth to eat, storing all its energy from its days as a caterpillar; so it lives just 7–10 days, and, being nocturnal, is rarely seen. Special, fleeting, and full of meaning.
